Stephanie Smith is a reporter for the New York Post. She has recently grabbed the attention of culinary masters such as Emeril and Michael White because of an unusual deal with her boyfriend, Eric. Every morning Eric would wake up, ask Stephanie how long she had been awake, and then joked that she had not made him a sandwich yet. Smith says, to him, sandwiches are like hugs, kisses, and even s*x. He says “Sandwiches are love” and that you can’t get a sandwich filled with love from a deli.
One day Smith finally broke down and made him a simple turkey and Swiss on wheat bread with lettuce and Dijon mustard. He wolfed down the sandwich and claimed that it was delicious. Then he said, “Honey, you’re 300 sandwiches away from an engagement ring!” Smith wasn’t sure if he was serious or not. She thought about it, realizing that their relationship revolved around food, especially since he was a gourmet cook. They met at a restaurant and from there he began to cook her an assortment of delicious meals.
Amid a ton of criticism from her friends, she scoured books for sandwich recipes and called friends to see what they had. If it was going to take 300 sandwiches for him to see that she would be a good wife, so be it. Many have berated her for setting the feminist movement back and him for being chauvinistic. But she decided that she was going to blog about the journey.
At this point she is at around sandwich number 176. She has been making sandwiches for every meal, but they are always different. Eric smiles and says thank you each time she brings him a sandwich.
What do you think? Is he $exist and is she setting the women’s rights movement back?
