Diabetes: The Silent Killer-How You Can Prevent It

Knowing you have diabetes early can help you to manage it better. Diabetes is a disease where the blood sugar levels are elevated. This can be due to poor diet and lack of insulin coming from the pancreas to reduce the blood sugar. Diabetes can lead to a lifelong treatment of pills and diet management but if left untreated can lead to heart disease, kidney failure, or even death.

Some of the risk factors for diabetes are genetics, diet, and believe it or not, race. To prevent diabetes, make sure there is plenty of exercise, and a low sugar intake during the day. Losing weight is the single most preventive measure for diabetes. Drinking coffee or tea three to four times per day can also lower your risk of diabetes as they control your blood sugar naturally.

When exercising, it is not necessarily about the weight loss. Exercise also increases insulin sensitivity, which helps the insulin reduce the amount of sugar in the blood. A workout regimen with aerobic activity and weight training is the most effective.

Diet is important as well. Reduce the sugar intake by eating fruits and veggies and complex carbs. Eat smaller meals through the day so that the blood sugar doesn’t suddenly spike.

Lastly, getting your levels checked regularly by a doctor is your best way to prevent diabetes. Know what your blood sugar and cholesterol levels are so that you know how to stay head of it. Keep your blood pressure low as well to reduce the risk .
