Doing This Ends More Relationships Than Anything Else

Communication is one of the most important aspects of a relationship. If something is wrong you need to communicate it to your partner so that they know what is going on and you can work together to solve it. If something is going really well communicate that to them too! One of the biggest mistakes that you can make when you are in a relationship is a lack of communication with your partner. If you get into an argument and think that the silent treatment is the way to work out the problem you will be single in no time.

Studies were conducted and the data that was pulled from these studies that date back to the 80s found that the silent treatment is one of the most damaging things for a relationship. It is also a habit that is very hard to break once you start. Your partner could become withdrawn, aggressive, and have anxiety if they are given the cold shoulder one too many times. It is very emotionally damaging when you have someone that you care about that doesn’t feel like talking about anything. Communicating your emotions to one another is a way of letting them know that you are invested and you care about their opinion. If you stop talking to them you are devaluing your relationship significantly.

When you are in an argument with your partner you need to remember that talking it out is the only way to go. Even if you are raising your voices or yelling, it is better than not speaking at all. How can you expect problems to be fixed if you don’t voice what the problem is and voice suggestions on how to go about fixing things? You can work together much better than working separately against each other. Therapists say that when couples come to them with issues communication is the one that is given the most as to why they are in therapy in the first place. Communication is the foundation for any relationship and when the silent treatment is given that foundation begins to cracks. The more cracks that are put in, the more likely it is to crumble.
