Vitamins and minerals are essential to our health and well-being. If you don’t have enough of a certain vitamin or mineral, you could begin to notice some side in your health and wellness. Dr. Oz has three essentials that you should be taking to feel great and keep your body running smoothly. According to the television personality, you should avoid taking more than five different supplements per day; try to keep it at three or less.
First is the multivitamin. While you should be eating enough fruits and vegetables through the day to get your requirements, a multivitamin will supplement what you may not be eating. A typical multivitamin will have 10 main vitamins and 10 minerals. Some of the vitamins included are A, B, C, D, E, K, along with zinc and potassium as the minerals. Iron is a big mineral found in multivitamins also.
When you are buying a multivitamin, make sure that you are getting one that says 100% daily value, as opposed to the ones that are 500% or more. You don’t want to overdo it and take too many vitamins or minerals, as these could have side effects and could harm your body as well.
Second are Omega-3 and fatty acids. These are excellent for brain health. They also prevent wrinkles, are good for your heart and arteries, and lubricate the joints. When buying a fatty acid supplement, get one with at least 600mg of Docosahexaenoic acid. There are three different types of fatty acids:
- Alpha-linelenic which is found in walnuts, olive oil, and flaxseed
- Docosahexaenoic which is found in fish oil
- Eicosapentaenoic which is also found in fish oil
Finally there is calcium with magnesium. Calcium keeps your bones strong and also keeps your muscles and your teeth strong as well. When taking a calcium supplement, try to take 600mg of calcium with 400mg of magnesium.
