Often times when we know that we should be exercising, we will come up with an excuse such as bad weather, not feeling well, or just plain don’t feel like it. But once we do get our exercise in, we feel amazing and get that rush from the endorphins. So why is it that we make excuses when we can feel just go for it and get that “high”?
Exercise can be like a drug. You get the rush after a workout and feel great,so why wouldn’t you want to come back for more of that feeling? Endorphins are released while you are working out. These are chemicals in the brain that leave a “feel-good” effect, much like some drugs do, but they are safe and produced by your body. A study performed by the University of California and Georgia Tech shows that the body also releases cannabinoids when you exercise. These are the same compounds in the chemicals that give marijuana smokers their high.
You do not have to be in the best shape to get this workout high either. Just 20 minutes of aerobic exercise is enough to get the blood pumping, the sweat pouring, the calories burning, and the endorphins rushing through your body. Some good aerobic exercise is walking, running, swimming, or biking. While the first five to ten minutes of the exercise may not feel great if you are out of shape, keep going. It gets better! Every time you go back to exercise you will feel better and better and will also increase your drive to continue making your body healthier!
Stick with an exercise routine, even if it is only 20 minutes per day, and soon you will be feeling great and will be hooked like so many others!
