Five Reasons Why “Preachers of LA” Is a Horrible, Disgusting, Ignorant Show

In case you haven’t heard of  “Preachers of LA,” this is a show where pastors parade around in fancy cars and big houses, showing them how the Lord has “blessed” them with so many material possessions.  Any person with an IQ above 12 can see what’s happening here, but unfortunately, the show might end up being a hit.  But here are a few reasons why this show might corrupt your soul and why we’re not planning on being fans of this televised monstrosity:

1)      Because it makes preachers look more corrupt and untrustworthy than they already do:  There are millions of people who refuse to go to church, mainly because they think the pastor is there to steal their money.  So, when the pastor has a church in a poor neighborhood and drives off in a Mercedes Benz, it only confirms the suspicion of the skeptics.  It’s one thing for a pastor to make a little money on the side, and another thing for him to flaunt it.

 2)      Because it makes black preachers look like buffoons:  Most of the preachers on the show are men of color.  Why is it that so many black preachers also want to be rappers and celebrities?

 3)      It makes black people in church look stupid:  As silly as the preachers look on this show, this is an even worse reflection on the people who follow them. Why are you giving all of your money to a man who is going on television showing how he loves to waste it?

 4) It shows that these men worship money more than God: If you can’t get away from materialism in church, then where can you?  Shouldn’t a show about pastors be centered around God instead of the size of the preacher’s bank account?

 5)      It’s another Vh1 ploy to exploit black people:  Black people are the driving force behind Vh1’s economic success.  While they get rich feeding us garbage, we sit around like ignorant vegetables, taking in whatever crap is tossed onto the screen.  This isn’t healthy for your mind, body or soul, which is why we are the first to die from a long list of diseases, are the worst in education and have so many problems leading to depression and addiction.   There is a connection here; what you put into your mind defines who you are as a person.

  1. The truth hurts and people can’t handle it. I like the show. No need for people to get mad. This show simply confirms what everyone has been saying forever. People really need to stop putting these pastors on pedestals they belong on.

  2. THIS IS WHY OUR ‘RACE’ WILL CONTINUE TO STAY IN THIS CESS POOL OF PHONY BS SO CALLED PREACHER THUGS. HERE IT IS 2013 AND BUFFOONERY LIVES ON FOREVER. WHEN WILL WE EVER WAKE UP ?
THEY ALL REMIND ME OF CHEAP ‘PIMPS’ AND THEIR WIVES WHO REMIND ME OF ‘BITCHES’ WITH A MISSION OF GETTING THE ‘F…’ OVER AT ANY COST ,,,,,, AMEN

PS: YOU ALL SHOULD GO SEE THE MOVIES …. ’12 YEARS OF SLAVERY.’ THIS IS WHAT OUR RICH HISTORY PAST IS ALL ABOUT AND NOT THESE CHEAP LA HUSTLING ‘WANNABE’ PREACHERS AND WIVES AS DEMONSTRATED.

  3. I totally disagree with your article. I have viewed the show about three times, and although, these men have a high level of wealth. I haven’t notice most of them parading. They are Celebrities’ in their own right because they have mega Churches or are in the gospel music industry. I don’t think that they are giving blacks, or preachers a bad name. I think that they decided to show their lives on a more personal level, which is rather bold of a preacher. Allowing the viewers to see the man as well as the preacher. Its interesting that as believers, we get to say what a minister/preacher should be doing in regards to finances, and their personal lives, not as their spouse or their member. Its now an interest topic, again to divide the people of God. Are they guilty for participating in that or are we. I guess we have moved to a place where everyone’s life is in full view, its just that we tune I’m not fond of; but its more towards character/ moral disposition rather than material promotion.
Christ came that we may have life and have it more abundantly, and a man is worth his higher. I pray that during this discussion than what God wants to be manifested will be in those that are actively participating and viewing. It does make for good ratings, and the right to speak your mind. Good ole America.

    • I agree, Kimberley. If the only thing that someone gets out of the show is that these men have a lot of money, that’s all they want to get out of the show. Even though they have material wealth, they aren’t “parading” it or flaunting it. There is a difference between the two. I’m not saying the show was a great idea because being transparent leaves the pastors vulnerable and open to subjective criticism, however, the folks who are most offended probably don’t go to church anyway.

      • Well I don’t like the show and I stopped going to church? Why? Too much drama. I fellowship at home and I still believe in god and accept Christ as my lord.

I like the show but some preachers do make the good ones look bad.If you believe and trust in God you can have a nice home and drive a nice car just like the preachers.

  5. This is the intent, to show you that pastors do not really care about people. They only care about your tithes and offerings. And since you tithe already, giving out of your need, they want you give more and more. But your light are off, you going to get evicted. But where is the help of the church?? That’s why I’m an atheist today. And I am seeing more blacks, especially here in the so-called bible belt where I stay. Leaving the church in droves. Church is a joke. Save your money and spend your money where you need it most. ON YOUR BILLS AND ON YOURSELF!!!

    What a shame!!.******
My late father was a great minister/preacher. I can see him turning over and over in his grave!

My thoughts are that these so called preachers are seeking fame and the almighty dollar. I AM SO ASHAMED OF THEM!!! MAY GOD HAVE MERCY UPON YOUR SOULS**********

  7. I like the show. I am a Christian who worked for a large church.

All 5 of your points are biased and uninformed.

Who told you God and Money don’t go together? Most of the Biblical leaders were RICH! Stop making idols of preachers and accept them as men and women who are called to preach the word. These pastors are doing good work. They are not charlatans. They are transparent but apparently many who rail against the show prefer the lie.

  8. We as people want to be in something and we want to be apart of something that seems grand. These pastors have all these things there members are running to give then and are neglecting their livelihood. Why dont all of them combine there resourses and build a nice apartment complex for the homeless . Help them get on there feet. Find a pastor that cares about people and parade around the building they built to help the less fortunate. Thats reality (tv).

  9. i don’t intend to ever watch it (or any other “reality” distortions) for these 5 & other reasons. but unfortunately, the people who watch this show will probably never be in a position to access this argument or these thought provoking criticisms.

  10. I honestly think, so called Christians are just upset because it exposes the hypocrisy that they themselves want to keep hidden. Point Blank Period. Everyone knows how Religion operates.

  11. Interesting commentary. I’ve watched the show merely for entertainment. It is truly that. I don’t perceive there to be “parading” of wealth, though one can certainly see that they have it. I think more than anything the series shows that religion is also business, and we the viewers are being let in on yet another one of the U.S.A.’s sector of businessmen. It’s fine to be entertained by these sorts of realities shows,BUT until we as U.S. African Americans read more history and educate ourselves about our ancestry, both before and after slavery (including how Christianity was forced on displaced Africans) we cannot begin to heal ourselves.

  12. LOVE THE SHOW, One GOD ONE JUDGE, DO LET IT GO. WHY YOU MAD. THE ONLY THING I AGREE WITH A LITTLE IS BUILDING A SOMETHING FOR THE HOMELESS. BUT IT’S UNFORTUNATE THAT A LOT OF PEOPLE DON’T WANT HELP. SO HOW IS IT THEIR FAULT ABOUT ANYTHING, PEOPLE GO OVERBOARD. LET IT GO. IF YOU DON’T LIKE, I THINK YOU KNOW WHAT TO DO.

  13. I see nothing wrong with these Preachers. Their members make sure that they are well put together and that all of their expensive bills are paid by their loyal and faithful congregation. They give their congregation what they came to church for Upliftment, spiritual insight, and to make a Joyous noise unto the LORD. PERHAPS THAT IS WHY THEY ARE WILLING TO DO TITHES. REMEMBER THAT A CHURCH IS A HOSPITAL FOR SINNERS, NOT A SANCTUARY OR MORTUARY FOR “SAINTS”. WHEN THE SPIRIT IS HEALED AND INTACT, PEOPLE CAN SEE CLEARER AND ARE ABLE TO FIND A WAY. THEY PRAISE GOD, AND PROMOTE THE MAN THAT DELIVERS “HIS” WORD.

  14. I’ve watched the show a couple of times. Yes these preachers do have nice things. How do we know for sure that it comes from the members of their churches? I know that churches are like many businesses in that they have bills that have to be payed in order to maintain them. On the other hand, I believe that people in general put many preachers on a pedestal, looking @ them as if they are supposed to be perfect people with perfect lives, etc. But many people need to realize that they are not perfect. They are human beings, born into sin like everybody else & will stumble, will fall like everybody else. I feel that this show just portrays each preacher as they are personally. I respect that they can get in front of everyone & be real like that, knowing that people may talk negatively about them or look @ them sideways in the process. The only other thing that I have to say is that you know that following these preachers is not going to guarantee you a place in heaven. You need to have a close, direct relationship with God. It will help you spot those people that are fake & not really in the Word.

  15. They’re found on the wall above the opening,
and look like a long metal coil. Theyy are easiuer to install
andd no tracks are required inside the garage. If you are not sure whzt you are
doing, it is always best tto consult a professional repairman.

  16. Every man have there down falls. I watched the show twice. Its entertaining but that’s it. Its not Something to take serious. They want to let you in on the struggles of a preacher. Although corrupt, it is society. Everyone watches the show to make themselves feel better about their down falls.
