There are chronic types of acne that people suffer from that are difficult to treat with creams and medications. Most of us suffer from acne as a result of poor eating choices and skincare. There are plenty of bad foods that are likely to make you break out. They are common foods that many Americans eat daily. Cutting back on some of these will help you clear up your skin.
Puffiness around the eyes can be caused by consuming too much salt. Salt causes the body to retain water leading to swelling. Since the skin around the eyes is so thin it is easy for them to look puffy when there is too much salt in your system. The way that salt affects you is age related. Swelling becomes more common as you reach middle-age.
Food that is high in iodine, like spinach, shellfish and some leafy greens can also cause acne. The reaction is caused by iodine building up in your system over time. If you eat shellfish one night and have broken out the next then it is likely that the two are not related because the iodine builds over time. If you easily get acne then you shouldn’t eat shellfish or high iodine foods more than a few times a month.
Some dairy products can cause acne as well. A study done in 2005 showed that drinking a lot of milk caused people to break out. An Italian study done in 2012 showed that drinking skim milk caused acne because of the higher level of bioavailable hormones in it.
So to avoid puffy eyes and acne and be on your way to better looking skin, avoid, salt, iodine and bioavailable hormones.
