The question of what makes the happiest couples so happy is one that gets many different answers. According to a new study, published inSocial Psychological and Personality Science, contrary to popular belief, couples who “get it on” the most are not the happiest.
The study says that couple who only “do it” once a week are just as happy as the ones who go at it like bunnies! The key is that the couple must make it count.
The head researcher,Amy Muise, points out that “Although more frequent sex is associated with greater happiness, this link was no longer significant at a frequency of more than once a week, our findings suggest that it’s important to maintain an intimate connection with your partner, but you don’t need to have s*x everyday as long as you’re maintaining that connection.”
Essentially what the research is pointing to is that having a lot of $ex does not necessarily make you happier than a couple that has less $ex.
According to mindbodygreen.com, “The study was based on an analysis of the results of surveys of more than 30,000 Americans collected over 40 years in three different projects. It’s the first study that finds that intercourse could be one of those activities that offers diminishing returns, sort of like the study that said money can buy happiness — but not after $75,000 a year.”
Another myth the study debunked is that $ex is more important to men than it is to women. It remained untrue regardless of the ages of the couples and the amount of time they were married.
