Twenty-seven year old Richard Thomas was sentenced to 5 years and 4 months in prison for [email protected] his neighbor while he was on drugs. He may end up getting a life sentence out of his attack however -a sentence of having HIV for life. He knew his victim but did not know that she was HIV positive. The victim had taken a sleeping pill that night and did not wake up until he was already committing the act. She was too afraid to do or say anything.
Once Thomas was arrested the police told him that he may have contracted HIV and he collapsed onto the floor. He is expected to find out by Friday, September 6th if he has tested positive or not. Thomas confessed that he had been drinking heavily as well as taking cocaine and ecstasy on the night he committed the [email protected] He does not remember the events of that night or walking into her Greater Manchester home. Soon he may have a daily reminder, should his test come back positive.
When asked about the crime Thomas admits that he does not remember it. He also stated that the victim is not someone who would lie about something like that so if she said it, it must be true. The judge in the case has ordered Thomas to be placed on the S*x Offenders Register for life.
This is just one of the many problems that Thomas has had in his life. His legal representative, Virginia Hayton says that he began smoking pot at the age of just nine years old, began drinking at age 11, and became addicted to ecstasy and cocaine by the time he was thirteen years old.
