When you are working out to get your muscles toned and defined, it takes patience. When can you expect to start seeing some results from all of your hard work? Experts Lee Boyce, C.P.T and Jon-Erik Kawamoto, strength and conditioning specialist, weigh in and give the answer to this question.
While the definition in your muscles depends on how much you work out and what the intensity of those workouts are, you can expect to see results in four to eight weeks. It may seem like that is a long time and you don’t want to have to wait that long, but your muscles need the time to develop and tighten and you also need the time to lose any body fat that you may have. You will not be able to see defined muscles from under a layer of fat.
If you really cannot wait that long and want ripped muscles now you need to think about doing high impact interval training. Do this three to four days per week. It will help to speed up your metabolism which will help the fat disappear that much faster.
One important thing to remember is that you need to give yourself a few days off. You cannot do high impact interval training every day. Your muscles need to rest in order to become toned. If you push too much and don’t give yourself a rest you will end up slowing the training and could also injure yourself.
Focus on a diet that is rich in protein as that is what will help to feed your muscles while you are working out. Boyce recommends that you start out by matching your weight and the grams of protein that you eat. For example, if you weigh 100 pounds, have 100 grams of protein for the day.
