Do you find that you get overly emotional about the smallest things? Do you cry at the drop of a hat? There is nothing wrong with being a little more sensitive than others, but sometimes it can be overwhelming for friends and family. Here are some ways that you can cope with being overly emotional.
1. Stick with others who are just as sensitive as you are. It will be easier for you to be who you are if you are around others who feel emotions the way you do. You won’t feel like you are alienating anyone and will still be able to be the person that you really are instead of suppressing emotions.
2. Take some time each week for a therapy session. A therapist is there to listen to you and let you feel whatever emotions you are feeling without judgment. You can release everything that you are feeling and will be much better when you emerge from the office.
3. Own your feelings. You are who you are and you feel what you feel. You shouldn’t change that or be embarrassed about it. Sometimes others can trigger our emotions and we tend to reach out and blame them for the way we are, but in all honesty, it is all inside of us, not them. When it comes to expressing your feelings, don’t use the phrase “You made me feel” because they didn’t make you feel anything. You did.
4. Don’t let others tell you that what you are feeling is wrong. Just because others are not comfortable with how they feel does not mean that you should let them bring you down as well.
