Being an entrepreneur takes a lot of hard work and can come with a lot of risk. Some people feel overwhelmed and are not sure exactly how to get started once they have made the decision to venture out on their own. There is always going to be that doubt and uncertainty when you choose to try something new. Entrepreneur and CEO of BodeTree, Chris Myers, has some advice that can help to relieve some of that uncertainty so that you can maintain focus on what is most important.
Self-awareness: Myers states that having a sense of self-awareness is key when you are starting out with your own venture. You need to have an open and honest discussion with yourself to recognize all of the setbacks that you may encounter along the way and how you plan to deal with them. You will need to remember that it is not going to be easy, and at times you may feel like quitting. But if you have a strong sense of self-awareness you will be able to see the challenges and roadblocks before they hit and will be able to take them on with confidence.
Control: You will not be able to have control of everything. There is no possible way. Myers says that if you are mindful of the fact that there are some things that are beyond your control you will be able to accept them and figure out how to deal with them. If you try to control everything you will have no new ideas coming in. If you are working with a team of people, you want other ideas and visions coming from this team. It is hard to do that when you will not relinquish control. Look at the positives from letting things go and opening yourself up to new possibilities that you may not have even realized where there.
Joy: Myers says that finding positivity and joy in what you are doing is key. When you love what you do you will maintain a clear mind. This allows you to focus on everything that you need to. Don’t look at all of the negatives that you may come across along the way as that will just drag you down. Even if you encounter negativity along the way, find the silver lining. These challenges that you overcome make you a stronger and more self-aware person!
