Robin Quivers is the co-host of Howard Stern’s radio show. She revealed on Monday that for the last 15 months she has been doing the show from home, and not in the studio due to being bed ridden while undergoing chemotherapy and radiation treatments. She had been diagnosed with endometrial cancer. She says that she is now cancer free.
Quivers found that she could not urinate when she was at a wedding and knew something was wrong. She went to the ER. After she got home she went to see other doctors in the area and that is when they found a large cancerous mass in her pelvis. In May of 2012 she underwent a 12 hour surgery to remove the tumor. According to her rep. the tumor had managed to attach itself to every organ that was in her pelvis. Fortunately it had not become metastatic and invaded other organs in the body. The doctors that she was working with at the time were not really familiar with this type of cancer, so they were more looking to prolong life as opposed to saving it.
Quivers then went to see Dr. Sloan Kettering who had experience with this type of cancer. Stern was upset and thought that she would not survive, but Kettering had other plans. She received the news that she may lose her colon and have to live life with a colostomy bag, but she had concerns over her quality of life and was not happy with this news. She underwent the chemotherapy treatments and different radiation treatments. Finally three months ago that said she could stop all treatments because the cancer was gone. She is expected to live a long and happy life.
