Veteran pop star Janet Jackson (pictured) shook the world up after it was announced that her much-anticipated “Unbreakable” tour was canceled early last month.
The 49-year-old singer and performer said that her music career was on hold due to a desire to settle down and start a family with her billionaire husband Wissam Al-Mana, a business tycoon from the Arabian Gulf nation of Qatar. Jackson’s reps said the tour would resume in 2017.
Many TV, cable, print, and online media outlets (including us here at HealthyBlackWoman.com) made reports, which questioned Jackson’s desire to become a mother at her age. The “What’s It Gonna Be?” hitmaker turns 50-years-old on May 16th. But sometimes, what seems impossible ends up happening after all.
Very recently, news broke from a number of national media sources that Jackson was pregnant with a child. Entertainment Tonight (ET) published a May 4th article, which they claimed covered an exclusive interview with Jackson where she talked about the big announcement.
When an ET correspondent allegedly told Jackson she would make “the greatest mother in the world,” she replied, “Well, I hope so. People say that, but I hope so.” Jackson has a new single out now called “DamnBaby.” A music video was released for the song right on the heels of her pregnancy announcement.
In 2008, Jackson was dating Atlanta rap producer and So So Def Entertainment founder Jermaine Dupri. ET spoke with Jackson back then about possibly having children. “I would love to have children of our own, but we also would love to adopt…So, we’ll see what happens. It’ll happen someday,” Jackson told ET.
Jackson’s marriage to Al-Mana is her third. She began dating him some time in 2011 and tied the knot in a secret wedding in 2012. However, the news about Jackson’s marriage to Al-Mana did not officially break until 2013.
It has widely speculated that Jackson gave birth once before. However, the child was allegedly given up for adoption, according to the rumor mill.
