Jada Pinkett: It Takes a “warrior mentality” To Make Marriage Last

Will Smith and Jada Pinkett-Smith are closing in on celebrating 20 years of wedded bliss. Of course being in the public eye this whole time hasn’t made it easy. There have been numerous rumors of divorce and infidelity between the couple which of course were all untrue according to the couple. So how do they manage to muddle through the public opinion and the rumors, the trials of being Hollywood stars, and go on to have a successful marriage? Jada recently sat down for an interview with Extra TV and revealed her secret to having a lasting marriage.

The first thing that Jada mentions is that you need to be friends with your partner. If you don’t have that friendship above all else, your marriage may not last. She says that Will is absolutely her best friend. You need to have that person that you can confide in. They should be the person that you can go to with any problem no matter how big or small. If you need a shoulder to cry on, a friend to lean on, or someone to just listen, your partner should be ready and willing. The same goes for you as well. Your spouse needs to know that you are going to be there to help them through rough times and that you are there to support them.

The most important thing Jada said that you need to have is a “warrior mentality”. You need to be able to stick out the bad times when they come at you. You are always going to hit a rough patch at one point or another but how you deal with that rough patch will determine the outcome of your marriage in the long run. She says that when the going gets tough you need to dig in and take care of the problem like a fighter as opposed to running away from it.

Jada has been known for her great advice and posed a question on Facebook as to whether people would watch a television show that she puts on where she does just that. For now she has a new show called Gotham coming out in September.
