Tabloid talk fixture Wendy Williams (pictured left) got some high-profile support a day after making an emotional announcement on her daytime talk show.
According to Entertainment Tonight, Katie Couric (pictured right) appeared Wednesday (March 20) on the Wendy Williams Show as a guest to talk about some of her latest career moves and other life details. However, Couric used the opportunity to send praise from one media Queen to the other.
The former CBS Evening News anchor surprised Williams after giving the show host a warm embrace in front of her live studio audience. On Tuesday (March 19), Williams made a tearful announcement on the air that shocked viewers at home and her studio audience members on the show as well.
“I have been living in a sober house. You know I’ve had a struggle with cocaine in my past. I never went to a place to get treatment. There are people in your family [dealing with addiction]- it might be you. I want you to know more of the story,” Williams said looking somberly into the camera.
She ended her revelation speech by giving viewers a 24-hour helpline for getting help with addiction. However, Couric appeared on Wendy to express her personal reaction to the chilling message Williams revealed on her show the previous day.
“I know this is your show, but I just want to start by saying I’m so proud of you. That was a hard thing to do. I felt for you and I think your candor and honesty is going to help so many people…I think you will do phenomenal things with this. I was really moved,” Couric said.
