Singer Kelis (pictured left) has been ordered to stand trial by a judge after violating the custodial arrangement a court ordered between the “Milkshake” hit maker and her ex-husband Nas (pictured right).

According to court documents procured by The Blast, the 39-year-old Kelis faces a 20-count contempt of court indictment, which was spawned by her ex-husband’s allegations that she intentionally kept the nine-year-old son the failed couple shares together to herself on numerous occasions. The legendary rapper even claims Kelis illegally left the country with Knight, the son he shares with her.

In January 2018, Nas (born Nasir Jones) and Kelis (born Kelis Rogers) brought an end to the age-old custody battle that ensued after the couple divorced was made final in May 2010. Back then, Nas, 45, was ordered by the court to pay a hefty five-figure sum per month in child support. For nearly eight years, a custody battle over Knight raged on before the courts finally granted shared custody over the nine-year-old boy. However, Nas returned to court earlier this year to file a complaint alleging that Kelis consistently violated the custodial agreement finalized a year before.

“In or around December of 2018, Petitioner (Kelis) moved to Cartagena, Colombia and took the minor child without my consent,” Nas said, according to court documents.

“On Christmas [2018], Petitioner (Kelis) informed me by text message that although her ‘plan’ had been to bring the minor child back to me in Los Angeles for New Year’s, the plan had changed. She then stated that the new plan was to come back on January 4, 2019,” he continued.

The Blast also published the leaked text message exchange between Nas and Kelis, which was an item that was entered into evidence in this case. Nas also alleged that he was not able to contact Knight until January 14 of this year, which is when his mother finally arrived in the United States after returning from Columbia. Kelis is also accused of failing to pay an $8,000 dollar sanction the court imposed against her at some point during the legal battle with her ex-husband.

Last week, Kelis entered a plea of not guilty in response to the charges that have been filed against her. She faces further fines and/or jail time if she is found guilty. A June 20, 2019 trial date has been set by a judge in this case.
