Actress and comedienne Mo’Nique set the world on fire after footage of a tirade was leaked online, which she made onstage during a recent standup comedy routine at New York City’s Apollo Theatre.
Mo’Nique, 49, got quite a reaction from the crowd as she went in on three of Black Hollywood’s biggest names in film making. The former late night talk show host was livid about being “blackballed” by the film industry after having fallouts with Tyler Perry, “Empire” creator Lee Daniels, and Oprah Winfrey.
“Thank you, Mr. Lee Daniels. Thank you, Mr. Tyler Perry. Thank you, Ms. Oprah Winfrey. I know they like to say, ‘Mo’Nique, you talk too motherf—kin’ much.’ It would kill me not to say the real s—t … You are not paying me equally. You are not treating me fairly, so you can suck my d—k if I had one,” Mo’Nique said onstage.
Since then, Winfrey has not been quoted as saying anything about Mo’Nique’s rant. Daniels was quoted as saying some things that seemed to distance himself from the woman who earned his 2009 movie “Precious” an Oscar victory. But his carefully crafted words still seemed to wish her well.
However, Perry has supposedly reached out to Mo’Nique recently in an attempt squash the beef she has with him. The Grio reported on Monday (May 22nd) that Mo’Nique said she received a phone call from Perry over this past weekend.
Some video footage of Mo’Nique talking about this phone call during another standup comedy routine has also gone viral.
“I wanna give that brother credit where credit is due. We did get a call from Tyler Perry last night, but I’ll share the conversation tonight but he did call….If a brother or sister call — that brother did pick up the phone and we did have a conversation and Imma share. And I told him I was [going to share it]. And I talked to Madea too,” Mo’Nique said.
Mo’Nique also claimed she felt a slightly condescending aura coming from Perry as he talked to her and her husband over the phone.
“Then he wanted to start talking to me and my husband like he was a billionaire I said n*gga we don’t give a f*ck about your money, let’s start talking one-to-one and let’s start talking some real sh*t,” Mo’Nique also said in her more recent viral footage.
Though she may not be appearing in any big budget films nowadays, Mo’Nique is consistently touring for her legions of standup comedy fans across the country. That is one revenue stream that those in the upper echelon of Hollywood cannot take away from her.
