Very recently, Ebony Magazine ran a story about an interview reality television actress NeNe Leakes (pictured left) conducted with US Weekly Magazine about some very emotional issues concerning her marriage to Gregg Leakes (pictured right).
As all Mrs. Leakes’ Real Housewives of Atlanta fans know, her husband Gregg was diagnosed with cancer some time ago. Caring for a terminally ill loved one takes its fair share of tolls on anyone, whether you are a spouse, daughter, son, grandparent, mother, or father.
However, a spouse dealing with these kinds of serious health conditions is particularly different due to the formal vows most contemporary marriages are built on, such as: “Through sickness and health, till’ death do us part.”
According to Mrs. Leakes, she was about to dishonorably break that particular marital vow due to the fact that at one point, the 50-year-old entertainer was going to leave Mr. Leakes and stated that she was too “weak” to deal with her marriage any longer.
“There’s a lot of things happening over here. There’s been days when I felt like I can’t do this anymore. Like I’m gonna have to leave Gregg, I cannot be with him anymore. Like, I’ve had every thought, because it’s been so difficult, and he’s not been the easiest patient in the world, so I’ve just felt everything,” Mrs. Leakes told US Weekly.
“I need a support system, trust me on that,” she continued.
“I need a f—king support system because so many people look at me and they say, ‘Oh, she’s so strong. She got this, you got this NeNe. I mean, God wouldn’t have put it on you guys if they knew you guys were strong, they knew you could handle it,'” Mrs. Leakes also told the magazine.
“Gregg has the perfect life, they can handle this. I’m like, ‘No, no, no, no bitch. I’m weak. Please come over here and support me.’ We’re not that strong,'” she added.
Hopefully, Mrs. Leakes does get the support system she desires because abandoning your spouse and your marital vows for the sake of convenience in these circumstances is indicative of a severe lapse in character. Our prayers are with the Leakes family and extended family as they are enduring this difficult time.
