RIP Daisy: Bravo Reality Star Dies After Battling Cancer

By: Krystle Crossman

Author, fashion guru, and reality television star Daisy Lewellyn has lost her fight with cancer. She was just 36 years old. Lewellyn’s nickname was the “Queen of Effortless Chic”. She got started with a career in fashion and writing. After publishing her book “Never Pay Retail Again: Shop Smart, Spend Less, & Look Your Best Ever” Lewellyn was chosen to star in Bravo’s Blood, Sweat, and Heels. The show focuses on Lewellyn’s life as a style expert. She gave people makeovers and advice on their fashion sense and did it with flair. She was a beloved TV personality. Unfortunately she battled a very rare form of cancer while she was taping this show and just this morning, April 8th, she lost the battle.

Lewellyn stated that her make-up artist commented on the fact that the whites of her eyeballs were green. She became concerned and immediately went to see her doctor. They diagnosed her with stage three bile duct cancer. This is a very rare type of cancer, especially for someone of Lewellyn’s age. Roughly 2,000 to 3,000 people every year are diagnosed with it in the Unite States. It is more prevalent in Southeast Asia because of parasites, according to the American Cancer Society. The survival rates for this type of cancer are grim as it is often caught too late for treatment to be effective.

When Lewellyn found out what her diagnosis was she decided during season two of her show to tell her castmates. She wanted this to be done on the show so it would air and people would see that life is not always as perfect as it seems on television. She stated in an interview with Essence that life was not all sunshine and rainbows and she felt that being able to share that moment with her audience would show that people like her go through real struggles too. She continued to tape the show while she was fighting for her life.

Everyone who knew Lewellyn had nothing but positive things to say about her. She had a big personality but was always kind and cheerful. She loved to make one-liner jokes to make others smile. She will be greatly missed by everyone who knew her and even those who never met her but watched her on television. Rest in peace Daisy Lewellyn.
