Finances are a vitally important component of a functional marriage. The momentary aspects of a union are often overlooked, which is a bad thing because trust is key to a couple’s ability to successfully manage money together.

Life partners of all walks of life run into trouble in the financial department at some point during their relationship. In fact, money madness is one of the main contributors to the high divorce rate in America. According to the New York Post’s gossip column called Page Six, a celebrated actor and film maker is battling adverse money matters in his marriage.

Robert De Niro (pictured left) is one of the most successful Hollywood figures of all time. De Niro has won Academy Awards for playing compelling movie roles as an actor, launched successful business ventures, and has produced movies that have gotten their debut at his Tribeca Film Festival. De Niro’s second wife, Grace Hightower (pictured right) has been married to him since 1997.

De Niro and Hightower have had well-publicized trouble in their marriage before. However, nowadays the couple is making headlines for other dysfunctions. Hightower owns a coffee company that is based in Rwanda. De Niro is one of the main investors in this company.

According to Page Six, sources close to De Niro have said that the “Casino” star is losing personal business relationships due to Hightower’s gross financial mismanagement of the Rwandan company. Things allegedly boiled over recently between De Niro and Hightower at an upscale bar in Manhattan, New York. The two were arguing in public when De Niro blurted out a lament over Hightower’s irresponsible money handling.

“I wouldn’t have to keep making s h- - tty movies if you didn’t spend all my money!” De Niro reportedly exclaimed.

A representative for Hightower’s business establishments played down any serious tension between her and her megastar husband. “Your story is based on something that never happened from a source who has an ax to grind,” Hightower’s rep said in an interview with Page Six.

However, neither De Niro or any of his representatives has released a statement confirming or denying any marital turbulence.
