When you belive that you are deeply in love with someone, you may see things differently. You may think that they are ready to leap into a commitment with you and be with you for the rest of your life, however, new research shows that men are becoming less and less sure about marriage. A study showed that 64% of men ages 25-29 had never been married as compared to 19% in 1970.
There are many different factors that can lead to this lack of final commitment. Brad Wilcox, PhD, says that people are going to school for longer periods of time and working out their careers before they even think about marriage. He says that since more and more couples are living together before they get married, some men feel there is no rush to be married because they are already technically living the married life. Here are four signs that your man is not ready to settle down.
1. Flying solo: You are always the one trying to make plans and always the one rearranging your schedule to fit his. This could be a red flag that he is not ready for a commitment where both parties need to share their time equally.
2. He avoids anything that is uncomfortable: When he disappears at the mention of a family event or a company event, he may not be ready to be fully committed. Meeting the parents is a big step and one that he may not be ready for.
3. His friends are single: Who wants to be tied down when all of your friends are still single? Also, you know that old saying: “Birds of a feather flock together”.
4. He has no concrete future plans: If he can’t specifically tell you any plans for the next five years or so, he may not be ready to choose who he is going to spend the rest of his life with.
