Many women manage to balance motherhood, marriage and demanding careers. When done successfully, this is actually a major accomplishment and requires a lot of planning and organizing. In spite of how hard some women work to get the best of both words, there are men who think they just need to stay home.
Decades ago women were looked down upon when they were a part of the workforce. They were told that they should be at home in the kitchen as opposed to having a job. Times certainly have changed since then considering that half of the workforce is now made up of women and there are more women-led businesses than ever before. But for some reason the old way of thinking still remains for many. A study that was conducted by the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill showed some interesting statistics about what men think of women in the workplace.
The study was led by Sredhari Desai. It used data that went all the way back to 1996 and five sets of surveys that were conducted over the last six years. They found that married men who were in marriages where the wife stayed home and the man worked were very unfavorable of women being in the workplace. The study also found that they were less likely to take a job that has female board directors or CEOs. Some men who are in a position of power and are in this type of marriage may even be the ones to turn a woman down for a promotion based solely on the fact that she is a woman and they don’t feel that she should even be in the workplace.
