When it comes to hot topics that regularly evolve in the national Black Hollywood tabloid news circuit, issues like interracial dating, infidelity rumors, and high-profile divorces hover at the top of the list at any given time.
R&B singer and reality television star Tamar Braxton (pictured) has made headlines off the strength of her personal life when it comes to all three of those issues. In late 2017, Braxton, 41, officially divorced record producer and music executive Vince Herbert approximately nine years after marrying him.
Prior to Braxton and Herbert’s divorce, word circulated about turbulence going on in their marriage for quite some time. Both sides were rumored to be unfaithful in the relationship. Unresolved business issues also came to the forefront when details about Sony Music’s lawsuit against Herbert were made public.
Fast-forward to early 2019 and Braxton is in the public eye again soaking up fan fare on the CBS-backed reality show Big Brother. Braxton has not been shy about disclosing details about her personal life publicly on the televised show. She even spilled the tea about her new Nigerian boyfriend who she affectionately calls T’Challa.
Braxton has been only been dating this mystery man for six months. However, she claims that her five-year-old son Logan (who she shares with Herbert) is already sleeping in the same bed with her and “T’Challa” at night. Braxton also shared that her new boyfriend told her he did not previously date black women at all.
This was also the case with Braxton’s ex-husband, which is why she would wear a blonde wig to appease Herbert’s acquired fetish for white women with sandy-colored hair. Braxton said to one of her housemates on Big Brother that after her divorce, she was super close to dating a man outside her race.
“I was actually was kind of over with Black dudes. Like, alright, this not workiiiiing, so let me just go on to the other side,” Braxton said with a laugh.
Her attraction to black men who do not prefer black women probably stems from the possible curiosity she may have in her mind about being sexually involved with men of other races.
This curiosity certainly runs in the family. Tamar’s elder sister and fellow celebrity Toni Braxton revealed in a 2011 interview with CNN’s Anderson Cooper that she was happily dating a white man for the first time in her life.
“I’m beginning to play in the snow a bit,” Toni told Cooper in front of a live studio audience.
