One of Black Hollywood’s most successful and influential women has made a significant lifestyle change after getting some frightening news from a doctor.
According to the Atlanta Black Star newspaper, actress Taraji P. Henson (pictured) recently saw a doctor in Macon, Georgia and was told some very sobering news. The 48-year-old Hidden Figures co-star learned from the physician that she was seriously on her way to developing cancer of the stomach.
Not too long ago, the Empire mainstay was shooting scenes in the state of Georgia for her upcoming film titled The Best of Enemies with co-star Sam Rockwell and director Robin Bissell. While working on the film’s production set, Henson was experiencing severe stomach problems so she went to see a doctor about it.
Doing so turned out to be the right thing to do for the A-list actress.
“It took a doctor in Macon, Ga., to say ‘If you don’t change what you’re doing, you’re going to get stomach cancer. I said, ‘Say no more.’ So I switched everything up out of necessity. I want to live. Thank God, because I feel so much better,'” Henson reportedly told InStyle Magazine.
Switching up everything out of necessity for Henson has included undergoing a vegan diet, as well as getting other habits in check, such as cutting down on alcohol consumption and dumping coffee.
“I stopped drinking coffee. I just kicked it. I don’t drink it anymore. I save my drinking for the weekends, only on the weekends. People drink alcohol, and just because you’re not an alcoholic, it doesn’t mean it’s not destroying your body. You have to know what you’re capable [of],” Henson also said.
Also, Henson’s husband Kelvin Hayden owns a gym and has been very supportive of his wife’s vegan diet and lifestyle changes for better health. The older one gets, the more cognizant they have to be about what goes into their bodies; regardless of how good they may look on the outside.
