Tyra Banks: I’m Not Slowing My Career Down To Have Babies

Tyra Banks is one of the hardest working women around. She has been a supermodel since she was a teenager but has also ventured into other avenues such as music, acting, and hosting America’s Next Top Model. While she is retired from the supermodel world she is still going full speed with her other adventures. In a recent interview she said that she does not plan on slowing down any time soon and does not want children any time in the near future.

Tyra is very private about her life and has always said that she can’t be bothered to answer rumors about herself. So many come up that it seems like a waste of time for her to trying and correct them. She says that she will talk about a lot of different topics, all the way up to menstrual cycles, but she doesn’t feel that talking about her day to day life is useful for anyone other than gossip mongers. She wants women to be comfortable talking about more uncomfortable subjects such as s*x and body issues.

Now Tyra has joined Special K in the hopes that she can raise awareness about self-image and try to show women that it is okay to think more positively about their bodies no matter how they look. In 2007 some very unflattering paparazzi shots were put onto the covers of magazines and Tyra suffered the backlash of people calling her fat and ugly. She said that people had called her that before and it was nothing new, but the part that was different this time was that they put her on the cover, on display for all to see whether they read the magazine or not. She felt as though anyone who was trashing her was trashing every woman that didn’t have a perfect body and so she felt that it was time to speak out against it.

  1. Good for Tyra! She is a self-supporting adult woman, and she can do what she wants. Have babies or not….

And I admire her for “standing up” to defend those of us who are not supermodels.

  2. I congratulate Tyra on knowing what is important in her life and for pursuing her dreams. If she was a mother and said she did not have time for children, that would be a problem. But Tyra is not a mother. If motherhood is not in her plans now or ever, it is her affair. You look good every day, Tyra. Thanks for speaking on behalf of women who don’t fit the supermodel image.

  3. GOOD MORNING EVERYONE MISSTRYA IS WELL AWARE SHE IS NOT TO ANYONES MOMMY {THATS OKAY SHE KNOW IT AND CAN BE PART OF HELPING ANOTHER PERSON A CHILD YOUNG ADULT BYBGIVING OF HERSELF WHICH SHE HAS ALREADY DONE.THERE ARE MANY WOMAN WHO SHOULD NOT HAVE KIDS,I AM BLESSED TO HAVE HAD TWO BEAUITFUL KIDS NOW ADULTS SON 27 ARMY RANGER MY WONDERFUL CLASSY DAUGHTER ALMOST 24 STUDYING LAW AND WORKING IN THE FIELD OF REALESTATE MY PARTNER OF 23 PAST A YEAR AGO SO I AM JUST DOING WHAT I MUST TO PLEASE GOD ,TYRA DOING THE SAME,I TAKE MY HAT OFF TO HER A WOMAN OF BUSINESS AND HER MOM MOTHER DIVA LIKE MY MOMA AMEN

  4. Well, when was the last time someone asked Tyra to marry them? What is so important about her “career”. What the heck is she doing anyway? Tyra is just firing shots back at Gabrielle Union for saying that “Your relationship should come before your career”. Tyra is just putting this out there we will all think that she is so busy, she has no time what so ever to have kids…….yeah right Tyra, I hear ya and so does John Singleton and Chris Webber and whoever that Wealth Management was you were with for years….and this billionaire you are with now……

  5. No many people can truly say on their death bed ‘I wish I went to work more and spend less time with my family’

  6. People are free too do what they please when it comes to having babies and their careers however Tyra has to realize that time waits for no one.The older a woman gets the less her chances are for having children it decreases particular past age 35 and I think if Tyra is not 40 yet it’s knocking on her door. Many women today are putting careers first and at the same time some have regret doing this because once the career has been established the time for having children are often too late.Tyra has been on the scene for years now and if she has not got that career thing down and air tight by now I don’t see her ever doing it in particular with the many projects that she’s been involved with over the yrs including her own show

    • Not every woman wants babies. 72% of black babies born in this country, MOST werent wanted or anticipated, they were the result of irresponsible [email protected] behavior. Period. It takes a strong RESPONSIBLE black woman to admit that pushing out babies is not her priority, and protects herself from unwanted pregnancies. I admire Tyra for her honesty.

      • I have a story. I was born of a single, teenage mom and our family was poor for a long time. I watched time and again the baby momma drama from my own family to friends and I never wanted that. I always told myself that if I was going to have kids I wanted a real family first with a husband that loved and cherished me then the kids would come from that. In the meantime, I concentrated on education and career. Unfortunately I did not find my prince until later in life and by the time we wanted a child it was not possible. We have made peace with this, but when I think of whether or not I would have been better off just getting knocked up by some random, irresponsible fool, I stop myself. I will never know the answer to this. But I firmly believe things happen for a reason and so I don’t have any regrets.

        • @ ambivalent – thank you for sharing your story, reading it put a smile on my face because its beautiful to me that you cared so much to want to have your child in the security of a two parent home. Im glad you found your prince and I hope yall have a lifetime of love and happiness!

    • I’m sure the poor woman is reminded by everyone that she will have a hard time having babies.. Well if Halle can do it at 41 then again at 47, Tyra has plenty of time at the age of 38

  7. It’s good that she did not marry Chris Weber. He seemed very controlling and was a womanizer. She is too strong and good of a woman to have to settle for a man just to have one. You go Tyra….it’s your life, live it on your terms.

  8. Fiscally Aware on

It’s cute how she’s pulled the wool over all of y’all’s eyes. This is just an excuse. G-d has made women multi faceted meaning that we can do several things at once and I know too many women who have successful careers and families. So I’m calling Trya’s bluff on that statement. She’s be better off saying that she hasn’t come across aan who wants to have a family with her and support her equally, rather then saying a ” career first” type of statement. After all her modeling career with Victoria secrets has been over long ago, she has sinced moved into producing and crating a show plus other ventures. The point I’m making is that whatever you set your mind to do, it can be done, and having a family will not prevent you from obtaining success. Society wants you to believe that you can’t do both which is a flat out lie!

  9. No one cares. Too many women are waiting to have babies when they should be
    grandmothers. Continue with you career.

  10. Change the title of this article. “babies” is mentioned in the title and there is not one quote from Tyra. My name could have been substituted for Tyra’s and the same response would been generated.

  11. She is pretty and has been quite successful in her professional life. I say, “you go girl, but remember, you will get old one day.” Who will be there to comfort you in the Nursing home?

  12. I see nothing wrong with it! I have 3 adult children and only 1 wanted kids, I told them as long as their spouses were happy with it, I was damned thrill! Too many people have children today for the wrong reasons, because mama wanted me to have them, because granny and great granny wanted me to have them, all for the wrong reasons. To have or not to have is a personal choice and absolutely nobody’s business! I have 2 grandsons and that is all I am going to have and yes I love them to death and so does their mother and father, their aunt and uncle are just happy being an uncle and an aunt! Tara it is your prerogative!

    • No not every child is a blessing that is the big lie in the black community. Depends on the cirumstance in which babies are born.

  13. Aww Come Oonn!!!!… She’s a model with model tendencies… Women in touch with their bodies, Doesn’t conception apply to that dialogue too?… Although it might be true, You can’t serve two masters…. Just Saying…
