R & B superstar Usher and his ex-wife have been in the media over and over since they first got together. First there was a lot of talk about their age difference (Tameka is reported to be eight years older than Usher) and then there was another media storm when their marriage and life together fell apart. After that, their custody battle started and sadly, one of Tameka’s son’s from a previous relationship died and most recently, one of their son’s was reported to have also been in an accident.
ABC featured an interview with Tameka where her mental health was part of the discussion. In the interview, Tameka admits being diagnosed with a mental disorder. She said,
“I had narcissistic personality traits. That’s what actually the diagnosis was. You do a test and they ask you a series of questions, like, ‘When you’re walking down the street, do you feel like people are looking?’ My answer is yes, but I was doing it based off of when I’m walking down the street, people do point and say, ‘Oh, that’s Usher’s ex-wife.’ I think we all have a little narcissistic personality disorder, especially those of us in the limelight,. But I don’t think it’s something that affects your parenting,”
In the interview, the former Mrs. Raymond went on to clarify that while many people think that she wants custody of her kids to get $8,000 in monthly child-support payments from Usher, that could not be further from the truth. She shared that she has made a lot of money in her career and wants to be with her kids and that the $8,000 is actually not a lot of money to her.
“…for someone to think I don’t love my kids and this is about $8,000, they are really crazy. That’s really ludicrous.”
Children need their mothers but should a woman who has been diagnosed with a mental disorder be allowed to have primary custody of her children?
