R & B superstar Usher and his ex-wife have been in the media over and over since they first got together. First there was a lot of talk about their age difference (Tameka is reported to be eight years older than Usher) and then there was another media storm when their marriage and life together fell apart. After that, their custody battle started and sadly, one of Tameka’s son’s from a previous relationship died and most recently, one of their son’s was reported to have also been in an accident.

ABC featured an interview with Tameka where her mental health was part of the discussion. In the interview, Tameka admits being diagnosed with a mental disorder. She said,

“I had narcissistic personality traits. That’s what actually the diagnosis was. You do a test and they ask you a series of questions, like, ‘When you’re walking down the street, do you feel like people are looking?’ My answer is yes, but I was doing it based off of when I’m walking down the street, people do point and say, ‘Oh, that’s Usher’s ex-wife.’ I think we all have a little narcissistic personality disorder, especially those of us in the limelight,. But I don’t think it’s something that affects your parenting,”

In the interview, the former Mrs. Raymond went on to clarify that while many people think that she wants custody of her kids to get $8,000 in monthly child-support payments from Usher, that could not be further from the truth. She shared that she has made a lot of money in her career and wants to be with her kids and that the $8,000 is actually not a lot of money to her.

She adds,
“…for someone to think I don’t love my kids and this is about $8,000, they are really crazy. That’s really ludicrous.”

Children need their mothers but should a woman who has been diagnosed with a mental disorder be allowed to have primary custody of her children?

  1. What is her disorder? There are millions of children who have never been in a custody dispute with a parent or BOTH parents having a mental disorder. We need more information. Also, a Judge recently gave custody of a 6 yr. old girl child to her convicted sex offender father. I’d say Tameka Raymond is less damaging than a freaking sex offender. There is no justice in the USA!

  2. In the event Tameka has an inevitable mental meltdown and injures her child, it will be noted the courts could have prevented this injury or god forbid ‘death’ to a child by simply denying the custody application to someone with a confirmed mental defect.

  3. “I had narcissistic personality traits…” Really? That is a joke compared to people who have actual mental disorders. I have worked with people who have real issues and are on medications for them. Now, don’t get me wrong, I sympathize with what Tameka has gone through in the past year….with losing her son to losing her home and custody of her younger children but I think it would be best if she just stayed out of the media and get the help she really needs. Just my opinion…..

  4. Each and everyone has those conceit traits. So should we all abandon our parental responsibities? Even usher and michael jackson has same traits. Oh Pls…………

  5. When one goes to a new doctor, one is asked to fill out medical forms.
The questions, are based on your family medical history, as well as your own.
Depending on how you answer, you may be perceived in many medical terms.
One is also, asked questions by the physician or assistant, often not a true medical assistant and they determine, your mental and physical status, along with your medical prescriptions.

Some forms are intended to lead you to answer in such a way, that you may be given unnecessary drugs.
Some doctors, have different forms for different people. This is true, because I have sat next to someone, who was also filling out the form and we commented on the questions.
I was surprised that hers, were not all the same as mine, yet we both were new patients.
I do not see, where a narcissus evaluation, is threatening to raising her children. Unless, she is so self centered , that she can not function, only for herself. then what is the outcry. I would like to ask the aunt, who let a five year old dive to the bottom of a pool, what type of mental disorder does she have. Come on, be for real. They are using everything they can to keep this mother from having her children. I like Usher, but, I think, they are going to have to find more substantial reasons, to keep her from custody. This is about children, being taking care of in the manner, which they are accustomed. That money covers, their shelter, food, clothing, medical needs, education and life style and for two children, based on Usher’s income, what is he griping about? After all, who ever has custody, the courts review the situation. why can they not have joint custody? Also, she nor Usher, from I read were responsible for the death of her son.
It was stated, that she did not have the insurance coverage to keep her son on a life support system.
Now tell me she did not have insurance. Perhaps, that is what the court needs to look at.

  6. It would be different if she were schzo or a Type 1 bipolar but narcissism is not to me a mental disorder. That’s a personality trait. If that’s what the basis of her losing custody of her kids then that is a waste of legal time. People with money can be so f’d up….

  7. What you left out of this interview is that Usher was diagnosed withe same thing but his attorney’s had his records sealed. Usher seems way more crazier than Tameka. He tried to run over his own mother in his car after being enraged. So the question should be should HE have custody?
