Richard Williams, the father of tennis stars Venus and Serena Williams is currently dealing with a serious situation involving his much younger soon-to-be ex-wife.
According to the Daily Mail, a major British newspaper, Mr. Williams, 75, is seeking a divorce from Lakeisha Williams, 38, who has been his wife for the last seven years. The couple also has a five-year-old son together named Dylan. Mr. Williams filed for divorce in the district court of the West Palm Beach, Florida area.
In his recently filed divorce petition, Mr. Williams made a number of allegations against his wife Lakeisha. He claimed she is an alcoholic, as well as more serious allegations, which involve him being victimized by his wife through the use of illegal fraud and forgery.
“[Mr. Williams] also claims [his wife] is stealing his social security checks and transferred ownership of their cars and a house to herself by forging his signature,” wrote Jose Lambiet, a West Palm Beach, Florida correspondent for the Daily Mail.
In his divorce petition, Mr. Williams additionally claimed that his wife has already left him for a man with “serious criminal, felony charges pending who could impose a danger to the minor child.” He also claimed that the couple’s five-year-old son is in his exclusive care.
Sandra Becher, a Miami-based lawyer who represents Lakeisha Williams claims that her client has maintained her innocence over the allegations in Mr. Williams’ divorce petition calling them “outrageous,” according to the Daily Mail.
“We categorically deny each and all the allegations he has made in the petition. When the issues come before the court, they’ll be proven to be patently false,” Becher said in a statement.
Mr. Williams has been a major supporter of his daughters’ careers in the sport of tennis. He served as their trainer for a long time. However, Mr. Williams has been accused of gross character lapses in his past as well.
In 2002, Oracene Price (the mother of Venus and Serena) accused Mr. Williams of assaulting her during a domestic violence incident where she allegedly suffered three cracked ribs. However, Mr. Williams was never criminally charged in that incident.
Oracene Price and Richard Williams divorced in the same year of the alleged domestic violence incident citing “irreconcilable differences.”
