When you are an entrepreneur you think a little differently than other people. There are so many different aspects to being your own boss and it is something that requires a lot of patience, smarts, and determination. During the day entrepreneurs like to have their own routines to help deal with stress and a busy lifestyle that goes along with ditching the normal 9 to 5 job. They also have some very important qualities that assist them in making that career leap according to Essence contributor Malia Brown.

1. Creativity – When you start your own business you will need to be a creative person. Daily tasks can be overwhelming but if you can come up with new ways of organizing yourself you will be much better off. If you are working for yourself and by yourself you need to remember that no one else will be able to give you ideas. You have to come up with solutions to problems on your own because only you know what is best for your business.

2. Risk – Entrepreneurs know how to take risks. They realize that without risk you can never truly get a reward. This is a very important quality to have when starting a business of your own. There is always going to be a risk involved when you let go of the 9 to 5 and how you deal with that risk will determine how successful you are.

3. Determination – People who give up easily are not meant to be entrepreneurs. It is very challenging and requires a lot of dedication. Things are going to be hard and there will be times when giving up seems like the best option. Entrepreneurs have determination and refuse to give up on their dreams.

4. Confidence – If you are timid and unsure of yourself you will be more likely to fail. Confidence is a key quality that entrepreneurs possess. They know that they have what it takes to make it on their own. They are ready and willing to take the steps that are necessary to create a business for themselves and they have the confidence that they are going to be able to make it work.

5. Learning skills – The ability to learn quickly and without much direction is something that you will need to have when starting your own business. You need to be able to be ahead of the game so that you can keep up with ever-changing technology in the industry that you are working in.
