Why Michelle Obama Partnered With J. Crew

Michelle Obama has started a new campaign called Drink Up. She is trying to get people to get away from the sugary and fat-filled drinks that we get from the drive-thru and replacing them with water. Water has many health benefits and is far better for you than a coffee every morning. Mrs. Obama has paired up with clothing company J. Crew, Skechers, BCBG, Bloomingdale’s, Herve Leger, and Rebecca Minkoff in order to spread the word about this initiative.

All of these brands will be creating and selling apparel that features a glass of water which says 60% Water on it. The t-shirt that has been created by J. Crew is selling for $25 and 100% of the profits go to the non-profit organization for the Drink Up campaign. Rebecca Minkoff has designed towels. Ten percent of the sales from these towels is going to go to the Partnership for a Healthier America.

The hope is that by pairing up with these well-known brands, water will be “cool”. People tend to follow trends and follow hot brands so pairing with these companies could help spread the word about the campaign easily. The main goal is not to get people to buy merchandise, but to make them more aware of how hydrated they should be.

When you are dehydrated you lose focus, energy, and your health. You will begin to feel sick. You may even pass out right on the floor. Your body is mostly made of water so it is no secret that we need to drink in order to keep everything working the way that it should. The recommended amount of water to drink per day is 8 glasses that hold at least 8 ounces each.
