Maxxandra Ford knew as soon as she started pushing that her son was going to be a big baby. She didn’t have any idea how right she was. After an intense 18 hours of labor and a lot of cursing Ford finally delivered her son Avery who weighed in at an astonishing 14 pounds and one ounce. Avery is the biggest baby born at the Tampa, Florida hospital, Saint Joseph’s Women’s Hospital. He was in the Neonatal ICU because of complications from being stuck in the birth canal but is fine now. The doctor taking care of him stated that when big babies get stuck like that they can have complications with breathing and eating.
One of the most interesting parts about this story is that up until she was eight months along, Ford had no idea that she was even pregnant. She had noticed that she was gaining a lot of weight in a short amount of time but said that her back didn’t hurt, she didn’t have swelling in the feet, and she wasn’t all that tired so she didn’t even think about it. Ford has two children already, a 5 year old and a 1 year old. You may be wondering how a woman did not know that she was pregnant with a 14 pound baby until her eighth month but it is actually more common that you would think.
Many women have issues with their period where it is erratic or sometimes doesn’t come at all. They also may be a little heavier around the midsection and wouldn’t notice that they are putting on a little extra width. Some of the symptoms of pregnancy can often be confused with those of your period such as the tender and swollen [email protected], fatigue, and back pain. Ford was lucky to have at least found out a month before she gave birth so that she had a little time to prepare. Some women don’t know that they are pregnant until they are in labor!
Mom and baby are both doing fine and Avery’s father jokes that he is a linebacker in the making.
