The loss of one pregnancy can be a heartbreaking experience for any woman. Having four is absolutely devastating. Unfortunately for Mansfield resident Anna Mitchell, that was her reality. After four fetal deaths and a fallopian tube that had to be removed, Mitchell had all but given up on being a mother. She had to suffer through yet another tragedy when her mother died from cancer.
After her mother died she found out that she had some inheritance money. She decided to use it for one last shot at being a mother and got an IVF (in-vitro fertilization) treatment. She was thrilled to find out that she was pregnant soon after. And not only was she pregnant, but she was REALLY pregnant. The doctors told her that she would be having triplets!
Mitchell said that she and her husband didn’t bother to decorate for the holidays because it was just the two of them in the house, but this year they are going all out. This will be the first Christmas that they get to spend as parents. Her first three pregnancies were conceived naturally but were all ectopic pregnancies, which is where the baby grows inside the fallopian tube instead of the uterus. This is an extremely life-threatening condition that requires the baby to be miscarried purposefully or surgically removed. With her third ectopic pregnancy they had to remove her fallopian tube which cut her chances of getting pregnant in half.
When she began the IVF treatments she gained some hope. The first time it didn’t take. The second time she had her fourth ectopic pregnancy. All hope was about to be lost until she finally was told that she was pregnant and would be having three babies, a girl and two boys. Mitchell says that the babies were a gift from Heaven, all made possible by her late mother.
