Woman Suing Georgia City to Get $ex Toys

By: Krystle Crossman

Melissa Davenport of Sandy Springs, GA suffers from multiple sclerosis. It is a disease that affects the nerves in the body. She is specifically worried about the nerves that affect her most intimate of places. She says that s*x toys have been able to save her marriage of 24 years but thanks to the town of Sandy Springs she has to go without.

Davenport is suing the city of Sandy Springs, not for the money, but for the right to buy s*x toys whenever she wishes. The current law that was put in place in 2009 states that you cannot enter an adult shop to buy toys unless you have a prescription from a doctor that states that it is medically necessary to have them (which is not an easy thing to find). Davenport feels that this is infringing on her 14th Amendment rights (right to privacy). She feels that what she wants to do in her own home should be left alone. The government has no place in the bedroom to dictate what someone can and cannot use.

Davenport says that she is worried about her marriage as they have had intimacy problems because she has essentially no feeling in her private parts which affects her ar0usal and s*x drive. She said that the doctors that she has been to have all had dirty minds about how she was planning on using the toys. None of the physicians that she has been to see would give her the prescription that she needed.

There is another plaintiff that is part of this suit as well, but not for the same reason. Artist Marshall Henry depicts adult toys in his art and he feels that the current law is inhibiting his sales.
