American Idol winner Ruben Studdard has been through a lot in his life. He has been extremely busy with his career since winning the second season of American Idol, beating out North Carolina native Clay Aiken. Now he has gotten a second chance on the hit show The Biggest Loser. He is a show favorite because he is so sweet and humble and you just can’t help but to cheer him on.
Sadly Ruben’s time on The Biggest Loser ranch came to an end in the fourth week. He had lost 39 pounds in just that one month. Through it all he remained positive and supportive of his other team members. It came down to a final weigh-in where he needed to lose at least 11 pounds to keep his team out of elimination. He lost a total of five pounds for the week despite sticking to his diet and workout routine. This also put him below the red line and sent him home. His teammates were visibly upset and his coach couldn’t believe that he hadn’t lost more weight because he knew how hard Ruben had worked.
Since leaving the ranch, Ruben has lost another 65 pounds, bringing his total to 104 lost. There are still three months until the finale of the show and he is well on track to being able to win the at-home prize of $100,000. When speaking in an interview with Today he said that the time on the ranch was much harder than he expected. It was the exercise and the diet that got him but rather the fact that he couldn’t talk to him family or friends. Needing that support and not being able to have it is a rough thing. He now has the support at home to fight diabetes and to get healthy!
