It always gives me great pleasure to put the spotlight on a woman who is modeling for other women that life is so much richer when you pursue your passion and purpose. Tendai is one such women for whom I have a great deal of admiration. If she had told me she was a pharmacist, I would be greatly impressed with her accomplishment but she didn’t just stop there; she is also a self starter who loves fashion and decided to share her passion with the world.
Here is my interview with her:
1) What is your name and what do you do?
My Name is Tendai Tawonezvi and I am Co-Founder of NeoBantu – a new ready to wear woman’s line, I am also a blogger and have a penchant for fashion. And because a woman’s work is never done – I am a pharmacist as well.
2) Please tell us how you are pursuing your passions.
NeoBantu is a pursuit of my passion. It is an expression of my creativity, [African] heritage and influences. I find great joy in being able to fuse all of these and help in some part to make women feel beautiful and celebrate their uniqueness.
3)You were selected for the spotlight, in part, because you have boldly stepped out and started your own fashion line. What was your inspiration?
I am inspired by other women mostly – however inspiration is all around us. I find that there is nothing $exier or more admirable than a woman who is comfortable in her own skin and boldly steps out into the world and strives to be the best that she can be. With NeoBantu we strive for every woman to be the best that they can be – and while clothes don’t a woman make, the NeoBantu woman recognizes the inner strength that a well-made tailored feminine look conveys . Neobantu aims to project what we already know is within you – that you are bold, vibrant and modern.
4) What advice do you have for women with regards to pursuing their passions?
Jump into it with both feet – and commit to making it a success knowing that there will be challenges ahead. Just Do it. Be willing and open to learn – mistakes will happen; that’s inevitable – and how we learn.
Like everything else in life there is no perfect time and you learn what you don’t know along the way. Surround yourself with positive people who are also objective about your goals in meaningful ways. Today there are so many avenues and platforms to inspire and help nudge you in the right direction. Seek these in books, websites like this one, online talks, and observe those who have been successful.
Have a vision for what you want to achieve and know that there may be more than one path to get there.
5) Is there anything else you’d like to share with The Healthy Black Woman audience?
NeoBantu just launched a Kickstarter Campaign where a select few items from our first collection are exclusively available. Click here to see more.
