It seems that more and more these days women are on the go and working 24/7. Some are always in the office, others bring the office home with them. Relaxation and vacation is a foreign concept and even if they do take a vacation they make sure that they are still able to check emails from work or even bring their work laptops with them! They may be called workaholics by their peers, but most say that is just how they function.
A survey done by Women’s Health and The Doctors found that 63% of women said that they very rarely make daily downtime a priority. They feel that if they are not working, they are not being productive with their time. They also found that women spend far less time on R&R than men do, and in fact 91% of women today blow off the concept of relaxation altogether.
This restlessness could be due to the fact that women are far more ambitious these days because there are more opportunities for them in the workforce. They know that there are dream jobs out there and they are determined to work hard to get them. Many women have the “having it all” concept in mind and try to make that a reality which doesn’t leave much time for rest. Some women are fighting just to keep their jobs or gain an edge over their co-workers because the job market is not as stable and most would like it to be. They feel that if they have time to relax, they have time to do work instead to help them get ahead of the game. 55% of women in fact feel guilty if they take time out to relax!
This need to work all the time is also an avoidance technique for some women. They have something bothering them but feel that if they take time to stop and relax they are going to have to face that issue head on.
