Have you ever wanted to go vegan but don’t think that you could change your diet so drastically? Well there is something that you can do. Part-time Veganism. Mark Bittman, who is a New York writer, wrote a book called VB6: Eat Vegan Before 6:00 to Lose Weight and Restore Your Health. The concept is that you eat as a vegan before 6pm and then after that all bets are off. Bittman says that the problem with the American diet these days is that we don’t get enough vegetables. He jokes and says that potato chips and Coca Cola are vegan so you still have to be careful with your diet.
Before 6pm you should try to get in plenty of vegetables, legumes, and fruits. You want healthy foods in your system through the day and then after 6 change things up if you want to. He says that while it is still a heavy commitment, it’s not that hard once you get into it. The point of the whole thing is to make sure that you are getting all the veggies that you need into your system without having to deprive yourself of some of your favorite non-vegan dishes. Deprivation is one of the biggest reasons for failure during a diet.
There are some fantastic benefits to eating vegan as well. You can help to lower your cholesterol, blood pressure, and of course your weight. You are eating clean foods so there is not as much for your body to have to process as opposed to when you scarf down a giant bacon double cheeseburger. Just remember that even though you are switching back after 6pm you should still continue to eat healthy foods.
